Warm wood, soft stone

A family living room arranged around the fireplace, with a wall of walnut shelving opposite and a tall window onto the garden. Walnut panelling and an off-white plaster finish keep the room warm and quiet, so the morning sun and the evening fire do the rest.

Travertine, bouclé and woven fabrics bring in texture rather than pattern, and a deep burgundy rug grounds the seating area. Black metal is kept to the lighting, drawn in thin lines against the ceiling.

Walkthrough

A short film of the finished room, from the morning light to the evening fire.

Lighting scheme

Drag the handle to see the room with and without its lights. A black linear pendant hangs over the coffee table, two shell pendants light the niches, and track spots wash the walnut walls.

Axonometric

The walnut bookcase runs the full length of the wall: open shelves in the middle for books and objects, and tall cupboards either side for everything else.

The cupboard doors have no handles. A light push opens them on a concealed latch, so the grain reads as one surface. Try it below.
